The words thief is often spelling theif by mistake. So the Tip we must remember for this is that "I" Before "E". Other examples of words being misspelled are relieved , relief , believed and belief.

If the word like received with a "C" in front of "E"and"I" It should not be spelled as recieved but should be spelled as received.

For the word thief, we have to remember that the letter "I" comes before the letter "E" . To make a story out of it, you "I" come before him "E" . "I" is yourself and "E" is him. Because "E" sounds like him. This story seems like you're very proud. ^_^ Other examples are the words relieved, relief, believe, belief.

But there are words that when there is a letter "C" in front, this rule does not apply. Examples are: received, deceived.

And there is also another word in which "I" does not come after "E". That word is "foreign". Another story to remember this is that since the rule of this word is not mentioned ( i think ) is that this word is foreign. That is what i have learnt!! ^_^

Thanks Mrs Tay for posting this up. Yes, i have learnt that in order to remember the word "thief", we just have to remember that the letter "I" is before the letter "E".The same thing goes for the word "believe", some of us(including me) had misspelled as "beleive". So whenever i relook at the word that i had written, i found it weird and changed it to "believe".It has the same logic as the word "thief".
And also for the principal and principle. We often get confuse with the word and meaning of these 2 words.I have the same problem as Leona sometimes, and also with the word "weird". I would often spelled it as "wierd", hehe.
The word "calendar" was also misspelled as "calender" as the last syllable pronounced was in the "E" tone, many people had thought that the "E" tone was letter "E", and had forgotten that it was supposed that it was the letter"A".
