Thank you Mrs Tay. The videos are very helpful. They finally cleared my confusion on the 2nd and 3rd conditionals.
2nd conditionals is using 'if' to talk about something which is unlikely to happen. We use the simple past tense on the 'if' part of the sentence and would + verb on the other.
e.g If I met Santa Claus, I would ask him for a present. While on the 3rd conditionals, we use 'if' to talk about a condition that did or did not happen in the past. In the 'if' part on the sentence, we talk about things that have already happened. We use had + past participle. On the other half of the sentence, we talk about what would have happened if things happened differently and we use would have/would not have + past participle.
e.g If I had studied better, I would have gotten better marks.
